I don’t know about you, but my kids would rather play with a box than the abundant toys they have strewn about. A box isn’t always a logical choice though, and they also tend to wear out quickly, especially when you body slam them while your sister is hiding inside. So what is a momma to do?
Make a bajillion inexpensive toys that they only get at special times. This is one of the easiest things that tends to keep Zeke’s attention the longest (read: while mom is cooking dinner, lunch, breakfast, snacks, and more snacks…these kids eat a lot).
Yes, it is that ridiculously simple. An old parmesan cheese bottle and inexpensive craft sticks from the dollar tree. I use colored ones, it just seems to make it more fun for some reason. Who doesn’t love color? I tend to only let them play with this at the highchair or somewhere that I can consistently monitor them. It’s crazy but, my kids think that running around with dangerous objects that could poke their eyes out, is just the most thrilling adventure there ever was…or maybe they just like to do it and watch me run around trying to stop them for fear of their impending blinding.
Apparently it not only works for the toddler, but also for the preschoolers as well. Not bad for less than $1.
